I like you both very much and hope that you'll work from inside the established Cheltenham Democratic Committee. That is the way for you to get involved with politics in this community. So show up at the meetings! Your absence there speaks volumes to me. You both came maybe twice during the past year. That's not enough to get to know what's going on, and also to educate yourselves about the work that the commissioners are doing. There is plenty of communication about the work they do at those meetings. Please attend them and get involved!

Submitted by luci ryan (not verified) on Wed, 05/20/2009 - 12:40am.
In 2006, I applied for the position of teacher in Cheltenham High School's Twilight School. I was interviewed by Dennis Doughtery, who has since left, submitted all pertinent documentation and was informed that I would be contacted one way or the other. As Mr. Doughtery toured me through out the class rooms, it was apparent that every student enrolled in the program was African American. As an educator, I found this disturbing and do not believe that the only low functioning, disruptive, late sleepers or students having to work were African Americans. Students arrived late for class with attitudes, hoods on their heads, disinterested and angry, but proceeded to their designated classrooms. There was no obvious order, direction or rigorous serious learning seeming to occur. These students were segregated and seemingly disenfranchise. It is the way of isolating undesireable populations so that those who are acceptable will not come in contact with the former. This is unconscionable and is basically hidden within the Cheltenham School District's sytem of education. As an advocate for all students I am concerned and strongly oppose this practice and suggest this paradigm be changed so that every student has an equal opportunity to education. I'd be happy to assist in this endeavor. Sincerely, Luci G. Ryan PS Congratulations on your victory. Blessings.

KATHY & ART: I hope all is

Submitted by Ken Fennal (not verified) on Sat, 08/29/2009 - 10:10am.
KATHY & ART: I hope all is well and you are ready for Phase II: November Election. I have just a couple of suggestions, if I may. Kathy, in your "About Kathy", you don't mention the area that you represent (will be) in the Township. Also, you might want to reach out to the Howard Alumni Association, as there are quite a few Alumni that grew up in Cheltenham, in their respective industries, who grew up in Laverock and are great communication links, among the professional and social circles. Kathy and Al: I believe you should update your "About" sections, indicating that you want support for the "November" Election, as opposed to the May 19th Election. Just some observations...

Dear Ken, Thank you for

Submitted by Kathy Hampton on Mon, 10/05/2009 - 9:09am.
Dear Ken, Thank you for commenting. I appreciate your suggestions regarding the Howard Alumni Association. I have met quite a few Howardite's during my canvassing. Also, the "About" section has been changed recently as many people have brought our attention to the lack of updating on the website. Your observations are noted and appreciated. Best Regards, Kathy Hampton
