Candidates vying for seats in three wards
The Cheltenham commissioners race will result in two new commissioners, no matter the election results on Nov. 3.
With incumbents Paul Greenwald and Jeffrey Muldawer being ousted in the primaries, there are many new faces in the contest.
In Ward 2, Democrat Art Haywood, a redevelopment law attorney, defeated Greenwald. He will face Denise Marshall in the general election.
“My 25 years of doing redevelopment work in Philadelphia can directly benefit Cheltenham because I’ve done zoning, land use, I’ve worked with governments to get grants for communities, and I’ve worked with businesses to invest in communities. I can do the same thing in Cheltenham to renew our investment into the community,” Haywood said.
...
There are also two new faces in the race for Ward 4, with Democrat Kathy Hampton running opposite Republican Mary Beth Carroll for the seat.
Hampton, a law librarian who has lived in Cheltenham for five years, worked with Haywood on the Obama campaign, and is now working with him to further their work locally by running for commissioner.
“With respect to Cheltenham, that would include working on communication. I want to work better in the township to keep people informed of issues that affect their lives, and right now those issues in Cheltenham have to do with development of a very limited amount of space that is open to the township,” Hampton said.

Urgent Health Care Action
President Obama has called for health care reform in 2009 that upholds three core principles. It must:
- Reduce costs — Rising health care costs are crushing the budgets of governments, businesses, individuals, and families, and they must be brought under control.
- Guarantee choice — Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor – including the choice of a public insurance option.
- Ensure quality care for all — All Americans must have quality and affordable health care.

Save Laverock Hill?
In an area as congested as Cheltenham Township, our most precious resource is developable land. One such parcel is the Laverock Hill property. Developing these last remaining properties will expand our tax base, but will also diminish the historical aspects of the township and the environmental quality of the surrounding neighborhoods. What do you think?
Jenkintown-Wyncote SEPTA Garage
SEPTA and the Montgomery County Planning Commission have proposed a new parking garage at the Jenkintown-Wyncote Regional Rail station.
Will it add convenience or excessively burden the neighborhood? Click here to weigh in...
